HOW TO BECOME A HAND MODEL
Below are answers to common questions I receive from aspiring hand models.
Q: How Can I Create A Hand Modeling Portfolio With No Experience and Limited Funds?
A: Look into working with an up and coming photographer and have them take shots of your hands. This can be a win win for both of you since you two will be building your portfolios.
Q: I've Booked My First Photoshoot! Do You Have Tips on Becoming a Successful Hand Model?
A: Congratulations on your 1st shoot! The best piece of advice I would give is to build relationships with people within the industry and be a team player on set with the photographer, manicurists, stylist, crew, etc. Also, take care of your hands the best you can. While becoming a hand model, I've been more conscious about wearing gloves when I clean, fix things around my apartment or do any type of heavy lifting and last but not least, moisturize.
Q : How Can I Find An Agency to Work With?
A: Depending on where you live, I would Google modeling agencies in your area and see if they have a parts modeling division or an agency that only specializes in parts. Most agencies with a parts division are in major markets such as New York and Los Angeles.
Q: How Did You Get Into Hand Modeling?
A: I booked my first gig on a website called Actors Access. This is a popular website actors use to submit themselves for various castings. I submitted snap shots of my hands to the casting director and luckily she chose me to be in the commercial. The commercial was for a beer brand and I did various shots with other hand models. I really enjoyed the shoot and afterwards had the light bulb moment to create the Instagram handle and website, NYC Hand Model.
